Easton Garden Club's Island Beautification
Island in the fall of 2007
April 5, 2008 Island Beautification
This past week, the island at Ground Pine Lane and Wedgewood Drive has seen a lot of activity. Easton's Park and Recreation Department cleared the land, Sam Partridge donated boulders, and Public Works brought and spread the top soil and delivered the plants to the site.  Saturday, April 5th was Installation Day.  Jane Butler, Cheryl Frier (our Civic Committee chairperson), Hove Herrmann, Andrea Kerin, Jean Puchalski, Doris Us, and Sabine Weiland, worked diligently all day. In the afternoon we were joined by members from Lee Hardisty's Girl Scout troop.  They were awesome! Planting, clearing and watering while two other troops were busy transplanting pachysandra and bringing it to the site. Neighbors offered refreshments and water and volunteered to weed during the summer months.
This island is part of a town wide one year pilot project, coordinated by the Easton Garden Club, where sponsors 'adopt' an unmaintained island, landscape and care for it, thereby beautifying the area for the benefit of all citizens.  Many, many thanks to all who participated!
